Some four months after the battle where 160,000 troops fought and 7,500 American soldiers, North and South, died at the battle of Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln gave a speech in front of 1,500 people, that will not be soon forgotten. President Lincoln is going to have the battlefield where so many soldiers fought and died, dedicated a portion of the field as a cemetery to all the soldiers who gave their lives, so they can have a final resting place.
Lincoln went on to say that, “we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow, this ground”. Claiming the soldiers who fought bravely had already done so “far above our poor power to add or detract”. This powerful and well thought out speech touched many people, and added to the dedication ceremony. Lincoln hopes that people dead, “shall not have died in vain”, in hopes that maybe they did all this for a reason and this war may soon be over.

Logan – A Utah based company known as, ClearPoint Instruction LLC, is giving hope to many “to be” patients at hospitals. They are offering what very well could be the future of orientation for pre-surgery patients (among others), so they will know exactly what to expect upon entering the hospital, and the preparations to take before entering. The simple DVD’s they offer explain to potential patients the before, during, and after effects they will go through while in a hospital. ClearPoint has already made its way to two of Utah’s hospitals, Mountain West Physical Therapy and Cache Valley Specialty Hospital, showing great affects on the patients who received the treatment.

Senior Vice President Project Manager of ClearPoint, Preston Parker, is very excited about the company and hopes to seethe product being used in many hospitals throughout Utah and the nation. “Patients who are less educated upon entering a hospital tend to recover slower and aren’t as happy as those who are more educated about the procedures and processes they undergo,” Parker said. “We hope to educate people so they are not afraid of surgery, or pregnancy, which makes their stay in the hospital minimal if they do what is required of them before and after surgery.”

ClearPoint shows simulated instruction, and leaves out the “gory” details, making sure patients won’t be scared after watching the DVD’s about what is being done to their bodies. It is clearly a product to educate and inform potential patients and is a great way to help people better understands exactly what is expected of them to make their doctor’s job as easy as possible. Clearpoint has already released several DVD’s some of which explain; Surgery, Pregnancy, Post-op/Physical Therapy along with In and Out Patient DVD’s to name a few. Obituary

Oprah Gail Winfrey passed away today as a mob of enthused and excited fans mauled her to death at the studio of her show. The fans were overly excited about the new, free cars they had just received as a gift from their beloved Oprah. Oprah was loved by many and will be terribly missed. She was the winner of many awards, some of which include; The Horatio Alger Award in 1993 and she is also the winner of seven Emmy Awards. “I trust that everything happens for a reason, even when we’re not wise enough to see it.” -Oprah Winfrey, O Magazine.

Burglar Suspects to be Tried

LOGAN, Utah

Two burglary suspects are being tried after being arrested by Sheriff Deputy Geoffery Hasty. The two acquaintances are suspected of breaking and entering a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints last week in Logan, Utah. 35 year old Jim Michaels and a juvenile, 15 (whose name is not being released), are both suspected of the burglary.

The Defense Attorney of Michaels, Robbie Cochran, believes the forensic evidence found at the scene of the crime to be “flimsy” and not enough to convict Michaels of any crime. Michaels posted a $5,000 bond and is to be tried on March 21^st, and could face up to six months to a year in jail.

The two suspects are former acquaintances and both have prior records, which were not discussed during the interview.

Burglary at LDS Church in Logan

Early this morning, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the corner of 9^th North and 16^th East was broken into. Two computers were stolen in the process, and Sheriff Deputy Geoffrey Hasty is investigating the burglary. Although no suspects are being pinpointed at the moment, he has some leads. He believes this to be the act of at least two juveniles, breaking in through a window in the Bishop’s office. “The window is just high enough that you would have to be hoisted up by another person to get in,” said Hasty. Two monitors were smashed in the hallway of the LDS Meetinghouse, leading to charges of vandalism as well as burglary.

The first person to arrive on the scene was the maintenance manager Robert (Bob) Knotz. “It looked as though the burglars entered through the window and unlocked the door from the inside.” Although Bob says coming up to an unlocked door usually doesn’t mean anything, he still wanted to investigate and stumbled upon the two smashed monitors in the hallway of the Mormon Church. Knotz doesn’t believe this to be a hate crime toward the LDS Church, but more of just some juveniles being kids.

Around 2 a.m. a neighborhood resident, Evelyn Breathwaite, heard something disturbing shattering noise across the street from her house. Although Evelyn lives right across the street from the LDS Church, she never would’ve thought someone would have broken into it. “Nothing like this has happened to this Church in 50 years” Evelyn stated, and she still considers it to be a safe neighborhood and isn’t scared to stick around.

Kitchen Fire Burns Down Building

            Yesterday evening around 2 p.m. a grease fire started, on Washington Boulevard, in the kitchen of Pedro’s Mexican Restaurant.  The owner of the Restaurant, Pedro Sanchez, was simply cooking hamburgers for a customer when the boiling grease exploding into flames.  Pedro has been living legally in the United States for two years now and says he like it in America and wishes to stay, even with the burning down of his restaurant.  Pedro says people in the community have already offered to aide him in the rebuilding of his restaurant.

            When Rachel Calhoun, the owner of the apartment buildings, was asked about the fire she refused to give any comments, as she was discussing it over with lawyers. 

            The Deputy Fire Chief on scene, Greg Chamberlain, arrived to the burning building about five minutes after it had started.  “It spread quickly and has smoke damage.” Chamberlain said when asked about the fire, he believes the fire was not started on purpose and has no reason to check it out for arson. 

            Pedro had a brother and two nieces who where in the apartments above the restaurant.  Miguel Sanchez (brother) 27, is here legally and waiting to receive his working papers in hopes to work for his brother and was not injured on the fire, but was treated on scene.  The two nieces, Maria Del Mar who is 4 and Mercedes, 2, were taken to McKay-Dee Hospital but were not harmed in the fire.

Grease Fire Burns Down Building

Early yesterday evening around 2 p.m. a grease fire started in a restaurant known as Pedro’s Mexican Restaurant. The Deputy Fire Chief on the scene was Greg Chamberlain. He was uncertain whether the building would be able to be repaired and believes that the fire was started on purpose

Rachel Calhoun was unwilling to give up any information or any comments, saying she was talking with lawyers. The owner of the restaurant, Pedro Sanchez was in the kitchen when the fire started. “I was cooking hamburgers when the grease started on fire.” Sanchez was very upset, he has been living in American legally for two years and wishes to stay here and make his business grow. Friends around the community have offered to help Sanchez rebuild his restaurant in hopes it can flourish.

Pedro had a brother, Miguel, 27, who he lived with in the apartments above the restaurant with two daughters. The daughters, Maria Del Mar, 4, and Mercedes, 2, were taken to the hospital and recovered nicely. Miguel was treated on scene and is without any injuries as well.
